$30 million investment will expand regional recycling capacity and support local jobs
UPPER MARLBORO, MD, UNITED STATES, October 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — JLT Recycling, LLC has contracted with Van Dyk Recycling Solutions to design and construct an advanced materials recovery facility for commercial single-stream recyclables in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The approximately $30 million project is planned for a seven-acre parcel adjacent to Joint Base Andrews and positioned near the Capital Beltway, Suitland Parkway and Pennsylvania Avenue.
The development will include a 50,000-square-foot materials recovery facility, along with separate maintenance and scale buildings. The project will support the recyclables collection operations of Jerome L. Taylor Trucking, Inc. (JLT Trucking), the largest independent waste and recyclables collection operator in the Washington metropolitan market.
The Van Dyk system is designed to process commercial single-stream recyclables at rates of up to 25 tons per hour. The broader facility is being developed for overall receiving capacity of up to 50 tons per hour, allowing JLT Recycling to accommodate continued collection growth and expand recycling services throughout the Washington region. The system will incorporate advanced screening, optical sorting, magnetic and eddy-current separation, and automated baling technology.
“This facility represents a lifelong dream for my family to bring jobs, technology and environmental benefits to the community where we grew up,” said Jerome Taylor, President and Chief Executive Officer of JLT Recycling and JLT Trucking. “It will allow us to process more of the recyclable material collected in our region close to home, create lasting employment opportunities and build infrastructure that will serve our customers and our community for decades.”
“I first worked with Van Dyk Recycling Solutions in 1990, building what became one of the first and largest dual-stream recycling facilities in the country, located outside of Boston,” said Marc Shaener, Vice President of JLT Recycling and JLT Trucking. “That experience showed me the importance of pairing proven equipment with a system designed around the specific material stream and operating goals of the facility. Van Dyk brings the engineering depth, technology and long-term service capability we need to build a high-performing facility for the next generation of recycling.”
By adding local sorting and processing capacity, JLT Recycling expects the project to reduce transportation requirements, recover more marketable commodities and provide customers with a regional outlet for recyclables.
Planning, engineering and site-development work will continue through 2027. JLT Recycling anticipates breaking ground in early 2028.
