As hospitals continue looking for new ways to elevate the patient experience, Morrison Healthcare introduces its new Maternity Experience Program: a hospitality-driven approach designed to help hospitals create more personalized, memorable moments for maternity patients and their families.
For many families, the maternity journey is one of life’s most meaningful milestones. Morrison Healthcare’s Maternity Experience Program transforms traditional foodservice into an extension of compassionate care, creating opportunities for hospitals to celebrate families while supporting recovery.
“For patients, every interaction during their hospital stay contributes to how that experience is remembered,” said Chef Stephen Gotthelf, Director of Culinary Innovation for Morrison Healthcare. “Our Maternity Experience Program reflects what we’ve heard from patients about the dining experience they want – an experience that feels celebratory, personalized and centered around hospitality, without compromising the nutrition needed for postpartum recovery. This program reimagines the traditional hospital stay by bringing together delicious cuisine, thoughtful service and meaningful moments that help families celebrate while supporting healing.”
The program was developed in response to feedback from hospital operators and nursing teams who recognized that maternity patients often have needs that traditional meal delivery models do not fully address. At the same time, today’s families increasingly value experiences that feel personalized, welcoming, and supportive.
The Maternity Experience Program features a flexible framework that allows hospitals to implement enhancements based on their operational goals and readiness. Hospitals can further personalize the experience with optional “surprise and delight” offerings. Designed to create memorable, personalized moments, the program supports the comfort and well-being of patients and their families throughout their hospital stay while remaining flexible and providing privacy and quiet support as needed.
Beyond dining, the initiative reinforces collaboration between foodservice and clinical teams by supporting nursing and contributing to a more consistent hospitality experience across the maternity journey.
“Every element of this experience was intentionally designed to make patients and families feel cared for and an experience that feels more like a special occasion than a hospital stay. At the same time, every menu item is thoughtfully developed to provide the nourishment postpartum patients need during recovery, proving that exceptional hospitality and clinical nutrition can go hand-in-hand,” said Chef Carlene Walker, Culinary Corporate Research & Development for Morrison Healthcare.
The Maternity Experience Program is part of Morrison Healthcare’s continued commitment to reimagining healthcare hospitality by creating meaningful experiences that support patients, families, caregivers, and hospital partners.
